Message from Mrs. Durso

Hello Wolf Pack!

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks for your support during our seamless Early Release Monday! We kicked off the day with a fantastic school-wide pep rally, and our students were the rainbow on even the cloudiest of days.

A special thank you to the PTA for generously providing the shirts for all our Wolf Pack members!

Just a quick reminder: tomorrow will be our Monday specials, so please remember that your child will not attend their Thursday special.

Also, next week will be a short week. There is no school on Thursday, October 3 (Rosh Hashanah) and Friday, October 4 (Teacher Workday).

Lastly, please ensure your child comes to school with their lunch. We understand that sometimes things are forgotten, but frequent drop-offs can be disruptive. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated!

Kelly Durso, Principal

Cali Loewenberg, Assistant Principal

Blue Star Welcome Week- September 21-29

Blue Star Welcome Week is a nationwide initiative to ensure military families feel a sense of belonging to their school communities. Fairfax County Public Schools will be intentionally celebrating and acknowledging Blue Star Welcome Week.

Blue Star Welcome Week is an opportunity to empower military families to thrive as they serve. There are approximately 13,500 military-connected students enrolled in FCPS. Each year, one-third of our military families transition into or out of our district. Blue Star Welcome Week gives schools an opportunity to welcome and connect with their military families. The goal is to create a sense of belonging and ensure that our military families feel celebrated and welcomed into their school communities.

On Friday, September 27, Oak Hill's military-connected students are invited to a Popsicles with the Principals, where they will be able to connect with other military children.  Those students will be receiving their invitations this week.

Wear Blue on Friday, September 27th, to celebrate Blue Star Welcome Week!

2024 Student Rights and Responsibilities

FCPS’ Student Rights and Responsibilities document (SR&R) explains expectations for student behavior and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment. Read Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid’s letter to families regarding the SR&R

Parents/caregivers should talk to their child(ren) about expectations for this school year. Also, please log in to SIS ParentVUE and sign to acknowledge your review of the SR&R, or sign and return the signature sheet to your child’s school by Monday, September 30

You can submit questions online regarding the SR&R.

Social-Emotional Learning Survey

FCPS is committed to supporting the mental wellness of all students. The Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener helps our students share their perspectives on how their schools and communities support them and help them develop the skills they need to succeed.

The screener is offered to all students in grades 3 through 12 in the fall and spring. It addresses skills such as achieving goals, understanding and managing emotions, establishing and maintaining relationships with adults and peers, and making responsible decisions. Students also share how successful their school and community are at making them feel valued, included, and supported. Screener data is used to plan programming for the division, schools, and individual students.

After each screening, results will be available in the Documents tab of SIS ParentVUE and mailed to families who don’t have a ParentVUE account. For more information, please visit the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener webpage.

Families who wish to opt their child out may do so by completing the opt-out form in the Annual Notice packet or SIS ParentVUE. For more information, please visit the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener webpage or contact our front office.

Please note that the SEL Screener is not the same as the anonymous Fairfax County Youth Survey, which will take place later this fall.

September 11 National Day of Service

Today is the 23rd anniversary of September 11. FCPS acknowledges the loss of life, the heroism of our first responders, and the resilience of our country. The September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, also called Patriot Day, is a chance to reflect and act in service to others to honor those who were injured or killed in the terrorist attacks.

All FCPS students are encouraged to participate in service learning as it supports Portrait of a Graduate (POG) attributes and social and emotional learning (SEL) skills.

A Few Quick Reminders
  • Please remember to bring your ID with you every time you come to the school.  Visitors must use their IDs in the office to sign in.  This is for the protection of all of our children.  Thank you for your cooperation.
  • Please make sure to notify the school if your child's dismissal procedure is different.  This is especially important if your child normally rides a day care van but is going home as a bus rider or a walker.  The day care bus drivers often do not get the information even when you have provided it to the day care center.  If you have notified Oak Hill, it makes it much quicker and easier for us to verify whether or not your student is supposed to be on that day care bus.
  • Registration for After School Activities has begun.  Please see the PTA section below for details.
  • Oak Hill Family Survey- Fill out this survey to share preferences for Family Coffee topics and to find out ways to support Oak Hill.
  • Digital Consent - Don’t let your student miss out on some of our digital tools! Provide your level of digital consent through this new portal. Use your SIS ParentVue log in!

Cell Phones Off, Learning On

Thank you for helping to support the FCPS cell phone policy by waiting to call or text your child about non-urgent matters until the school day is over. In case of an emergency, it is always best to contact the school’s front office to reach your child during class time.

Visit the FCPS Cell Phone Policy webpage to read more about usage policies by grade level and to share your feedback on the current cell phone policy.
